Schlosskonzert

Andrew Downes (Copyright Andrew Downes) CRC1009-2

Schloss Aistersheim is a wonderful Renaissance castle, surrounded by a pond. The concerts given in this castle were the starting point of this CD, and the recording provides an interesting programme for a pianist and several horn players. Andrew Downes' Sonata for Horn and Piano* is the longest track on the CD, and it makes use of both the highest and lowest registers of the horn. As with many works for horns, one movement (in this case the second) has a rhythm suggestive of a galloping horse, to remind us of the hunting-horn origin of the instrument. The Suite for Six Horns**, also by Andrew Downes, is a witty,

often light-hearted piece in five movements. Visit
